So yesterday we got our school photos back for our kids:
and let’s just say … we took their portraits this evening ourselves! The funny thing is many people would think we did their school portraits ourselves but we haven’t in the past because as you and I and everyone else has those same school shots that when we look through our old photographs as children are completely priceless, this is why we still by the package from the school! But this time we decided let’s take our children into our studio and shoot their portraits and see how it goes!
Well to start off it was great but then there is the point when they realize who are, only their parents! and they just don’t cooperate, could simply be because they are photographed out a little maybe?? Well anyway we were still able to get some nice shots. As you will all see and notice our younger son is quite the handful!
I wanted to quickly give a little story about the whole Irish get up as well, because to all great things there tends to be a story! So here I go …
We had an e-session in Old Town Alexandria around June or so and when we parked we realized we did not have change but only bills for the meters, so we decide that we would run into one of the shops real quick to get quarters, well the shop we ran into was “The Irish Walk†and we thought instead of just grabbing quarters and running that we would browse and shop a little, even though neither of us have any Irish blood, so we quickly browsed through the shop (we took notice that they had some really nice Irish bridal stuff.) We finally went to the check out with 3 shirts and a toddler dress for our kids and walked out around $200 and some odd dollars less. While we were checking out I quickly chatted with the lady behind the counter inquiring as to her bridal clientele and if she had a lot of brides coming in and out? When she replied yes I had kindly asked if I could give her some cards to give out as she saw fit. Well as we were walking out a young lady and her mother had been walking in, little did we know this would be our St. Patrick’s Day Bride! I truly feel that fate brought this couple to us, Shannon and Vince after our meeting wrote us a beautiful email that I thought we would share as it truly touched our hearts!
“Dear Amy,
Vince and I had some time to discuss our meeting with you yesterday and also got to bounce our decision off of some close family friends yesterday evening over dinner. If you are available March 17, 2007 we would very much like to reserve your services for our wedding photos and engagement photos.
We both arrived at this conclusion for a number of reasons, for Vince it was something that you both said in the first 15 minutes of our meeting. He wanted me to forward his thoughts to you all:
“Walking into yesterday’s meeting I knew you shot the kind of photos I like, but what I didn’t know was that you both were so family oriented.
First, I respect that you are running this business from home while taking care of your four children. Second, I came from a big family and I like to see other people from our generation have big families against the norm of today. Third, realize that you could make more money by working more events per year but you have decided to forego a cash increase in order to spend more time with your kids and each other. That last thing was to me the deciding point.
Whether you guys are able to do our pictures or not, I’ll tell you either way that you have my respect as photographers but even more for the way you run your family affairs.
