RP Tip #4: Coverage time needed.

Disclaimer: RP Tips are based solely on our experiences as full time wedding photographers and posted at our discretion. RP Tips may not suit everyone’s wants or needs. As we are in a heavy booking part of the season many clients are unsure of how much coverage they actually need. This has always been quite interesting as it varies from bride to bride and her priorities for her big day. We often recommend that we start when you begin getting ready. If your hair and makeup is being done at a salon then often times the photographer will begin at the hotel or church wherever you will be slipping into your dress. You want to remember that when it comes to your reception it is important to stay on a timeline as it allows everything to move in an orderly fashion. This is where a really great coordinator or day of coordinator (DOC) can come into play, relieving a lot of stress and anxiety from the Bride in return. Having your photographer there through all the main events is really important so staying on schedule will save time and money when it comes to extra hours needed. Most photographers will stay through till all the events are carried out, however there may be additional fees associated. On average weddings tend to need no more then 7 to 8 hours of coverage from start to finish when planned efficiently.

Engaged Magazine – Featured Article!

Last year as we met with a Bride and her Mother we were asked about the magazine and if we had ever heard of the magazine “Engaged!” our reply to her was “No. But we would love to see it.” Shortly after, we received a copy in the mail from the Bride’s mother again saying how much she loved this magazine and the content along with the big images that are placed inside of it. When I was finally able to hold the magazine in my hands and peek inside I was able to see exactly what this brides Mother meant by the feel and look of the magazine, she also had mentioned that she would love to see some of our images in there one day. Well the day has finally come as we have a featured article as well as several images, one of which is her beloved daughter and soon to be Son-In-Law! The magazine will be available this Friday at: Area bridal salons such as Priscilla of Boston at Tysons, and various stores at the Tysons Galleria such as: Crane & Co., Iridesse, Saks bridal salon, Art With Flowers this is certainly a must have magazine!

Cincinnati Conservative?

So we arrived in Cincinnati early Friday afternoon. Quickly checking into our room at the Cincinnatian Hotel and ordering room service right before our first session began at 4pm.

Heidi McKenna the make-up artist arrived promptly at four with Julie our first client and our Marathon in Cincinnati was off!

cincibdmarathon_00.jpg

Talk about an awesome group of girls, while yes Cincinnati is conservative the girls were all quite bubbly and outgoing, I don’t think we have ever had boudoir clients as comfortable with themselves as this group was. Friday we started off with 2 sessions, then into Saturday with 5. We started shortly after an abortion protest sprang out and down the street.

cincibdmarathon_3.jpg

We quickly learned how conservative Cincinnati truly was! Then we were underway, the sessions all went quite smoothly spending the morning with Heidi and the girls.

The night ended in our last session being disturbed by the fire alarm being activated at the Hotel only for us all to head downstairs while everyone was still enjoying their cocktails!

When we woke up Sunday it was heavily snowing and we weren’t quite sure how many of the 5 girls were going to make it out to their session, however all were troopers and showed up pretty much on time keeping the sessions rolling constantly throughout the day.

Heidi in a short time became our new best friend! For any of you Cincinnati girls out there checking the blog, she is a steal of a deal and I would snag her up! I think she said she had very few slots left for the year! We ended the evening with Jenn and her husband who we went out to dinner with afterwards to “McCormick and Schmitts” which will be a fine dining experience to remember! Thank you Jen and Carlos you were so much fun, we wish you both and all the Cincinnati girls all the best in your happily ever afters!

Oh and for those of you interested here is a shot I took of Srinu in action!

Unfortunately we will no longer be posting our boudoir shots on the blog as they can be seen in our secure RP forum by contracted clients only. Clients wishing to share can feel free to post them in the public area of the forum. Also any clients whom have built boudoir albums can feel free to share their layout within the secure part of the forum.

RP Tip #3: Ceremony to Reception.

Disclaimer: RP Tips are based solely on our experiences as full time wedding photographers and posted at our discretion. RP Tips may not suit everyone’s wants or needs. RP Tips are offered as a benefit to brides planning their wedding day in an effort to get the best results from a photographer from our stand point. Let’s talk a little about timeline. There are a lot of important parts to a timeline, but this week I just want to talk briefly about the time from the end of your ceremony to the start of your reception and how valuable that time truly is for a photographer who yields creativity when given the time. As wedding season begins to approach this becomes the most popular question:

“How much time do I allocate for pictures in between?”

Typically after the ceremony you and your husband will exit the church/ceremony site, you may want to consider having your photographer exit with you and go straight into couple shots versus taking recessional photos, after all you have the processional photos. This will cut down on time wasted. I know that tradition says altar/arbor photos but let’s think about those photos and taking them into a better lighting situation, after all you do want the best photos that you photographer can offer to you. Consider keeping your shot list down to immediate family only and allow your photographer to catch other family members during the reception. Onto your bridal party, these usually consist of family or friends from your childhood, college, most likely you grew in some way through your life with them. Capturing all of you together should be very important and not in a stiff formal posed shot, why not casual it up a bit. This is where your photographer will come into play. It is just about you and the bridal party at this time. Remember that each posed shot may take 5 minutes or more (depending on your bridal party size) to set up so you want to be sure that you get the max out of your time and location. You should concentrate on locations with photo opportunity that will play well with lighting conditions. And remember to keep in mind how time will permit it to happen, the more time wasted in transport the less time is spent on photo opportunities.
